چکیده

Diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectroscopy (DRIFT), Raman spectroscopy of adsorbed Pyridine molecules (Py-Raman) and in situ Py-IR have been used to investigate the hydroxyl species and acid sites on diatomite surfaces. The Lewis (L) and BrØnsted (B) acid sites, and various hydroxyl species, including isolated hydroxyl groups, H-bonded hydroxyl groups and physically adsorbed water, are identified. The L acid sites in diatomite samples are resulted from the clay impurities, and the B acid sites are resulted from some moderate strength H-bonded hydroxyl groups. At room temperature, both of the isolated and H-bonded silanols associate with the physically adsorbed water by hydrogen bond. After calcination treatment, physically adsorbed water will be desorbed from the silanols, and the silanols will condense with the increase of temperature. Generally, the H-bonded silanols condense more easily than the isolated ones. The properties of surface hydroxyl species of diatomaceous silica are more similar to precipitated silica rather than fumed silica. PACS codes: 68.35.B; 39.30

Raman Study of the Photochemistry of Maleic Acid Adsorbed on the Surface of Colloidal Silver

The surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectra of maleic (cis; 2-butaneoic acid) and fumaric (trans; 2-butaneoic acid) acids adsorbed on aqueous silver sol particles are reported. These two acids form two groups of isomers which differ only in the relative positions of the two carboxylate groups. The photochemistry of maleic and fumaric acids adsorbed on the surface of silver colloids...

Adsorption of Acid blue 92 dye on modified diatomite by nickel oxide nanoparticles in aqueous solutions

Adsorbent prepared from waste plants for the treatment of dyeing effluents have high significance in environmental sustainability. In this research, adsorption of Acid Blue 92AB 92 dye from aqueous solutions on raw and modified diatomite nickel oxide nanoparticles was studied. The effect of different operation parameters such as pH, contact time, initial dye concentration, calcinations and sorb...

In Situ Vibrational Spectroscopy Studies of Supported Niobium Oxide Catalysts

The IR spectra of bulk Nb2O5‚nH2O and niobia supported on SiO2, Al2O3, ZrO2, and TiO2 were recorded in the fundamental and overtone NbdO regions, as well as in the hydroxyl region, to develop a better understanding of the structural models of surface NbOx species. The coincidence of the IR and Raman fundamental NbdO frequency in Nb2O5/Al2O3, Nb2O5/ZrO2, and Nb2O5/TiO2 provides the strongest evi...

Removal of arsenite and arsenate using hydrous ferric oxide incorporated into naturally occurring porous diatomite.

In this study, a simplified and effective method was tried to immobilize iron oxide onto a naturally occurring porous diatomite. Experimental resultsfor several physicochemical properties and arsenic edges revealed that iron oxide incorporated into diatomite was amorphous hydrous ferric oxide (HFO). Sorption trends of Fe (25%)-diatomite for both arsenite and arsenate were similar to those of HF...

SERS spectrum of gallic acid obtained from a modified silver colloid.

Two different crystals of the gallic acid were microscopically separated from a p.a. commercial product. The Raman spectra analysis allowed distinguishing monomeric and dimeric structures. The vibrational wave numbers were computed using DFT quantum chemical calculations. The data obtained from wave number calculations are used to assign vibrational bands obtained in the Raman spectrum. The dim...
